A few weeks ago we accompanied the new england aquarium interns on an adventure to lovells island where they spent their time tide pooling, swimming, and enjoying the local views. Sailing broomstick and phoenix, an erikson 29 and a seafarer, was a challenging experience for the two of us because we generally spend our time on smaller boats. The size of these vessels  was intimidating at first but the guidance of two veteran cruising instructors, leo and ethan, we got the hang of it and picked up valuable new skils. By the time we returned to pier 4, the feeling of being overwhelmed had subsided, and was replaced by a feeling of newfound confidence.

Like I mentioned early in the week, Shark Supporters Week is about helping students and staff learn about sharks and begin to appreciate them as key players in the marine ecosystem. Find some great lessons to educate about sharks at the links below:

PBS      Discovery

Remember to introduce science facts about sharks into the lessons so we can all view sharks as the beautiful, skilled predators that they are and not just ruthless man-eaters.  Sharks are always an interesting marine biology topic that excites kids and adults, so make sure to help others learn more than just what the media advertises about these special sea creatures.
