We want to make sure that each and every one of our customers has the best experience possible. Please be sure to read this page thoroughly in order to understand exactly what we have to offer you and how and when you can redeem your vouchers.
REDEMPTION PERIOD: May 1st, 2012 - September 30th, 2012
These are the dates that we are actually open for sailing, and in which your 2-hour lesson/harbor cruise or 12-hour course will take place.
SCHEDULING PERIOD: Living Social: February 1st, 2012 - June 1st, 2012
Groupon: February 23, 2012- June 30, 2012
You can call us or use our online scheduler to reserve your time slot during the scheduling period of your particular deal. Think of this as a registration period.
EXPIRATION DATE FOR DEALS: Living Social: June 1st, 2012
Groupon: June 30th, 2012
This is the last day that you can make your reservation. This is the "expiration date" on the deal. Any voucher not scheduled by 6/1/2012(Living Social) or 6/30/2012(Groupon) will be forfeited.

LivingSocial - You will need the last 11 digits of your 12 digit Certificate # to use our online scheduler. If your Certificate # looks like "100050147110", you will want to drop that first "1" and enter "00050147110" into the "Discount/Deal" field.
Groupon - You will need the barcode from your Groupon to use our online scheduler. Your barcode should look like "1234-1234"

2-Hour Sailing Lesson or Harbor Cruise for Up to Three ($95)
This is a voucher for 1 sailboat with 1 instructor that can fit up to 3 students or passengers. This means that you can come all by yourself for a lesson or cruise, or you and up to 2 friends can take a lesson or cruise together!
On weekends, we generally have slots available at 10am, 12pm, 2:30pm, and 4:30pm.
On weekdays, we generally have slots available at 1pm, 3pm, and 5:30pm.
Specific times available may vary but will follow the same pattern. You may reschedule freely up to one week before your scheduled appointment. We will charge a $30 rescheduling fee to reschedule within one week of the scheduled appointment to cover instructor costs, and voucher is subject to forfeiture for cancellations within 24 hours or no-shows.
12-Hour Sailing Lesson for One plus One-Month Membership ($275)
This is a voucher for one adult (aged 18 or older) to take our introductory Basic Keelboat Part 1 sailing course which runs one day per weekend over 2 weekends and to enjoy the benefits of a One-Month Membership. Generally, a Basic Keelboat Part 1 course will look like this:
Saturday May 12, Saturday May 19, 10am-4:30pm 1/2hour lunch break each day OR
Sunday June 10, Sunday June 17, 10am-4:30pm,1/2hour lunch break each day
You will be grouped with 2 other students for the class. If you and a friend would like to take the class together, please contact Cha. If we have 3 people interested in taking Basic Keelboat Part 1 together, we can often create a schedule that is customized to your needs, whether it is a series of weeknights (i.e. 4 evenings from 5pm-8pm), consecutive Saturday/Sunday, or even Tuesday/Wednesday if weekdays are fully open for you. You may reschedule up to one week before your scheduled course starts. Your course cannot be rescheduled within one week of the scheduled start of the course; voucher is subject to forfeiture for cancellation within one week of the scheduled start of the course.
Your One-Month Membership allows participation in weekly racing and weekend group classes, and access to the Rhodes-19 fleet for qualified skippers (students who pass our "Red Flag", or novice rating test at the end of the course). Your One-Month Membership starts on the last day of your Basic Keelboat Part 1 course. The course and membership must be used by the same customer; it cannot be shared.

When is the best time to sail on Boston Harbor?
Some of the best sailing of the year is in May, June, and September. The hotter months in July and August can be great, too, but are more prone to light wind (it's hard to sail without it!) and thunderstorms.
What if there's bad weather?
Well, that depends on what you mean by bad weather. Sailing is fun even when the weather isn't perfect, and we cannot guarantee sunny days for everyone. So if it's overcast or just a raining a little, we will sail. We will reschedule free of charge in the event of unsafe weather such as thunderstorms, heavy rain, or heavy winds. If the weather is looking bad, it's best to give us a call before heading to Charlestown if we haven't already contacted you.
What if I need to reschedule my reservation?
As long as you give us a week's notice, it is no problem at all. You should be able to do it yourself within the online scheduler, but if you need help you can always contact

What should I bring with me? How should I dress?
Depending on the deal you purchased, you'll be outside for 2 to 6 hours. Prepare accordingly, and check the weather! We recommend a bottle of water, sunglasses, clothing suitable to any regular outdoor activity, an extra layer just in case, and sunblock. If it looks like rain, pack a rainjacket if you have one (we have some if you don't). Sneakers or athletic shoes are fine, but no flip flops or dress shoes. Cameras are fine. If you're taking Basic Keelboat, you can bring a lunch or visit a nearby sandwich shop. Don't forget to bring a printout of your voucher!
Can I bring children?
Yes. There must be one responsible adult per child under the age of 12 who can oversee their movement on the boat (and the instructor doesn't count!). We can bump the passenger limit up to 4 if it is two adults and two children, since kids tend to be on the small side. Please let us know in advance if there will be children on board. If bringing a child under 50 lbs, the customer is responsible for providing a U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation device for the child.
When should I arrive at Courageous Sailing?
Please arrive at Courageous 10-15 minutes early so that you can get your full two hours on the water. If you are running late, please call ahead to let us know! If you arrive late for your appointment, we will not be able to give you the full two hours.

What kind of boat will I sail on? Do they capsize? Will I get wet?
You'll be sailing in one of our Rhodes 19s. R-19s are keelboats, which means there is a big heavy metal fin and bulb on the bottom that prevents the boat from capsizing. On windy days, you may get a bit wet from spray as water breaks over the bow or sides of the boat, but there is a compartment where you can stow items and keep them dry.
