How much is it to sign up for the summer youth program?

Absolutely Free!

Courageous Sailing center as proudly offered free sailing courses to Boston's youth for the past 20 years. Our programs are made possible by the generosity of foundations, private corporations, individual donors and our adult membership.

How do I register my child?

Registration forms for 2008 will not be available until March 24. Registration will open April 14 and close May 10.

How can I get a registration form and/or brochure?

Please email kate@courageoussailing.org with your name and mailing address and the subject heading "Registration Form & Brochure Request." No materials will be mailed before March 24, 2008. Until that time, you can download our brochure here.

How old do my children have to be?

All children must be between the ages of 8 and 18. No exceptions.

Do you ever make exceptions on student's age?

No.

I am not from Boston. Can my child register for your program?

Yes. Though most of our students are Boston residents, our students hail from all corners of the greater Boston area. Our summer program is open to all.

I am not from Boston. Can my child register to sail at Jamaica Pond?

No. The Jamaica Pond site is open to residents of Boston only.

Do you need to know how to swim?

Yes. Though swimming is not a regular part of our program, for safety reasons, all students must be able to swim 25 yards and tread water for 90 seconds.

Where are you located?

Our year-round offices are located on the end of Pier 4 in the Charlestown Navy Yard, where our students sail on Boston Harbor. We also have sites at Jamaica Pond and the Dorchester/UMass campus.

In 2008, COURAGEOUS began running a sailing program for the campers of Camp Harbor View on Long Island in Boston. If you are a Boston resident and would like more information on how to register for the Camp Harbor View program, please visit the Camp Harbor View website.

Does my child have to take Step 1 before Step 2?

No. Most of our students enter our program at Step 2. No previous sailing experience is necessary in order to enter Step 2.

What happened to RecSail?

"RecSail" is now "Step 3: Intermediate Sailing." If your child was in Step 2 last year and has completed their "blue book" and has passed the RecSail Test or Basic Sailing Test, then they are eligible to register for Step 3.

Is my child ready for Step 3: Intermediate Sailing?

Is my child ready for Step 4: Racing and/or Cruising?

Can my children sail together in the same class?

Can my child sail with his/her friends in the same class?

Can my child register with his/her friends in the same class or at the same site?

Which Step should my child register for?

My child has taken sailing lessons at another sailing center. Which Step should he or she register for?

What should my child bring to class?
