About Jamaica Pond

Jamaica Pond, a glacial kettle hole, is part of the "Emerald Necklace," the famed Boston parks system designed by Frederick Law Olmstead. The pond is the source of the Muddy River, which drains into the Charles River. The pond has an area of about 68 acres, is about 1.5 miles around, and is 53 feet (16 m) deep at its center, making it the largest body of fresh water in Boston. The pond once served as a reservoir and supplied ice in the winter to Boston and beyond.  - from Wikipedia
