Each year the Make-A-Mark Celebration brings together over 300 friends and supporters of the Courageous Sailing Center. It is a unique opportunity for the business, civic, and philanthropic communities to come together to make a difference in the lives of local inner-city youth. The festivities will include cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, silent and live Auctions, and dancing to great music!

Who Does the Fundraiser Benefit?

Net proceeds support the Youth Enrichment Program of the Courageous Sailing Center.  For over 20 years, Courageous has taught sailing to over ten thousand Greater Boston children, FREE of charge.  Through the COURAGE Curriculum, the program develops essential life skills like teamwork, self-confidence, and leadership. Make-A-Mark proceeds are vital as Courageous continues to grow:  In 2007, Courageous served over 1200 children and provided over 30,000 hours of programming – ALL FREE!

Who Attends the Fundraiser?

Adult members of Courageous, sailors in the Courageous Corporate Challenge, volunteers, parents, and many more young professionals who support Courageous and actively help further its mission, attend Make-A-Mark.

What Will Happen at This Year’s Fundraiser?

The evening will include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, food stations, dancing, and live music by the Chad Hollister Band. Early in the evening, guests will have prime viewing of a Children’s Regatta off of Pier 4, against the backdrop of the Boston skyline. There will be a silent auction throughout the evening and a live auction following the awards presentation for the 2008 Corporate Challenge.

What Type of Donations Are Needed?

Cash Sponsorships are most desperately needed to help support the kids’ program, but creative, desirable items and unique experiential gifts also help raise money through the auctions.  Trips, Vacation Rentals, Yacht Charters, Tickets to Games, Autographed Celebrity Memorabilia, Hotel Stays, Dinners, Golf Packages, and even Private Jet Charters are great items to consider donating.  Promotional items that can be displayed on or near the auction tables will help describe the item and make its value more apparent.  Please contact our Executive Director, John Maconga, for more information ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
