The Courageous Team

Courageous has a core group of 6 year-round staff members who keep our programs running and our fleet of about 70 boats shipshape.  During the sailing season, we welcome about 100 more wonderful individuals to our staff, from instructors for both the Youth Programs and Adult Programs to front desk, dock, and extra maintenance hands.

Dave oversees our adult membership and instruction programs and also manages corporate events.  Dave recruits, trains and manages instructors for our course offerings and manages the day-to-day operations of the adult program.  He develops all adult membership programming from regularly scheduled racing to camping trips and social events. Dave started out sailing dinghies on Long Island and acquired a taste for racing, whether it was fleet, team, or match.  His first position at Courageous was Racing Coach for the Youth Program.

Cha works with the Adult Program Director to make sure that instructor training, staff scheduling, day-to-day operations, and racing run smoothly.  She is responsible for scheduling courses, managing transactions for adult programs, and working on the continual development and refinement of adult programming.  Cha grew up sailing at Courageous, was captain of the Women's Sailing Team at M.I.T. and remains an avid Laser racer.

Kate is responsible for managing all of our need-blind youth progams.  From after-school programs to our Summer Youth Program, Kate manages nearly 65 instructors and other staff to allow nearly 1,200 youth to sail with Courageous each year.  Kate learned to sail on the South Shore in Cape Cod Mercuries and went on to sail in high school and college.  She has worked at and managed numerous sailing programs in the area.

If it's not sailing related, Lindsey probably coordinates it.  She is in charge of handling all accounts receivable and accounts payable.  She also manages payroll, merchandise, volunteering, site rentals, and special event logistics.  Lindsey took our Basic Keelboat Complete course in the summer of 2011 and earned her Red Flag!

Dan comes to us from a tall ships backround and has crossed the ocean many times.  He now keeps our fleet of over 70 boats in working order(no easy feat!) and manages all boat donations and sales.  As we revitalize our cruising programs, Dan is on the lookout for any well-kept 25'-35' boats that could fit in with our cruising fleet.  We're still trying to convince him that smaller boats are fun too.

Christopher Roper, Assistant Fleet Manager

Chris is an English teacher of 30 years and comes from a family rich with sailors.  He helps Dan with managing the fleet whilst keeping us up to date with our Yeats.

Courageous Board of Directors

Courageous Sailing is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.  The Board is made up of outstanding volunteers from various areas of professional and personal backgrounds.  The Board hires the Executive Director and is responsible for fiscal oversight, fundraising support, strategic input and operations and programmatic support. We are honored to have the following individuals on our Board of Directors.
