About Make-A-Mark

Now in it's 19th year, Make-A-Mark is Courageous' signature summertime gala and fundraiser for Courageous's youth development programs. Last year's Make-a-Mark could hardly have gone better -- it was a perfect night out for nearly 600 Courageous friends and supporters who came out to Charlestown and together raised over $100,000 to support Courageous kids, helping them not only to learn how to sail, but also to succeed in life.

Tickets for the 2015 Make-a-Mark are on sale now and selling fast.  Please click here to purchase.

Special note for Courageous friends from Marblehead, Marion (and thereabouts).   Thanks to complimentary buses through our event sponsor, Paul Revere Transporation, we've got you covered to and from (see below for more info.)   We hope to see you there!

FAF - Laser About Fund-A-Future

When you donate to Fund-A-Future you are directly supporting  scholarships for children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to learn to sail.

Every summer, Courageous provides programs for over 1,000 Boston youth ages 8 to 18, regardless of their ability to pay. Tuition for our full day summer sailing youth program is $500 per child per week. Our staff of 100 instructors specialize in creating a unique learning environment where young sailors can build their self-confidence and leadership skills through a challenging and fun curriculum that emphasizes environmental sciences.

Since 2012, in addition to our core programs, Courageous has also focused on providing more support for youth from Boston's high-poverty neighborhoods.  Through our "Reach Initiative" we have provided intensive 3-5 week experiences for over 200 youth, joining academics with sailing and swimming lessons, and adding tranportation, meals and extended day options to help further reduce and eliminate any barriers to entry to Courageous programs.   In 2015, all funds donated through Fund-a-Future will support the Courageous Reach Initiative, providing the Courageous experience to Boston children who would not otherwise be able to participate.

MAM - AuctionSilent & Live Auctions

The auction is always a highlight of the evening.  Last year's silent auction was one of our most diverse in recent memory with over 75 items. From weekend getaways in Maine to brunch at the Top of the Hub, there were many happy guests who walked home with a win or two.  The live auction was expecially exciting,  with six very exclusive items including brunch for 10 with the mayor and the chance to toss out the first pitch at a 2015 Red Sox game at the center of a couple bidding duels.  When combined, the two auctions raised well over $40,000 for the Courageous youth program!

Questions about the event

Who will the proceeds benefit?

Courageous Sailing teaches sailing and life skills free of charge to over 1,000 Greater Boston children each year. We use sailing instruction as a platform for learning and growth, with a focus on personal responsibility, communication, teamwork, problem solving, and stewardship. All funds raised through our ticket sales, silent auction, raffle and event sponsorships go directly to support our youth programming and provide scholarships for children who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to learn to sail.

Why are funds needed?

While Courageous provided over 30,000 hours of programming to over 1,000 children in 2014, and will provide even more in 2015, only one-third of students applying for our Summer Youth Program will be admitted into our program due to limited funding and capacity.  Additional funding is needed to expand access and to maintain the high quality of our programming and fleet.

Who will be there?

Members, neighbors, volunteers, parents, young professionals, sailors from throughout the region and anyone who wants to have fun while supporting Courageous Sailing - you and your friends!
