Scholarship Eligibility, Application, & Policies

Our course fees are set on a "sliding scale" based upon a family's Annual Household Income or Adjusted Gross Income. See below tables describing the fees and sliding-scale for each course.

The registration and lottery process for admitance to the Courageous Sailing Summer youth programs is “Need-Blind.” This means that admission, in no respect, is based on ability to pay. Scholarships are readily available for all who qualify. Extenuating circumstances are always taken into consideration should a family choose to share them with our staff. All financial and personal information is kept confidential.

 Policies and Procedures

Due to extremely high demand for this program, Courageous Sailing's Summer Youth Program Policies are are aimed at maximizing the number of students able to participate and reducing the number that remain on the wait list.

  • Confirmation Policy: If a family has not confirmed their participation by May 1, Courageous Sailing reserves the right to rescind the student's spot and give it to one of the many children on the wait list.
  • Outstanding Paperwork: Students cannot participate unless the following paperwork has been signed and submitted to Courageous Sailing: Medical and General Liability Waiver, Proof of Swimming Form, and Emergency Contact information. If a student does not have all of these required documents on file by the first day of their session, their spot will be given to one of the children on the wait list.

If your family is unable to make make their full payment by the due date, please contact the Director of Youth Programs to arrange an alternative payment schedule or to learn more about our scholarship application process.
  • Attendance Policy: If your child does not attend the first day of a one-week program or the first week of a multi-week program (without prior notification) then your child’s space will be given to someone on the waiting list for the remainder of the session.
  • Cancellation Policy: If a family that has confirmed their participation in the program decides to cancel their participation, Courageous Sailing must be informed at least two weeks prior to their program start date. If not, that family will not be eligible to participate in the summer youth program the following year. If extenuating circumstances necessitate canceling within two weeks of the program, contact Courageous Sailing immediately.
  • Refund Policy: A full refund will be given to families that cancel their participation prior to two weeks before the start of their program. After that date, no refund will be made except for extenuating circumstances.
  • Class Assignment Policy: In order to provide the best and safest experience possible for each young sailor, Courageous Sailing reserves the right to update class preferences based on student's previous experience and recommendations from their previous year's instructor.
